Overview
Get ready to power through uphills and descents with this wide-fit and mid-cut GORE-TEX version of the X-ULTRA 4. It is as agile as a trail-running shoe but with all the stability, grip and waterproof protection you need to tackle technical terrain. Equipped with a new chassis, the shoe is even better at protecting sensitive articulations without compromising freedom of movement.

While climbing uphill, digging your heel into the ground can literally propel you forward, rolling your boot uphill. During our climb, we had a conversation with a hiker who was on her way down. She mentioned a location with great views was 90 minutes away. While my colleagues peeled away and returned back down the mountain, I continued with the climb, I managed to cover only 500 meters in 50 minutes. As I started running downhill, I made sure my shoelaces were tightly tied. This is the part where you realize if your boots are perfect or not because you don't want your toes to hit the end of the boot. You also want your knees to be cushioned from the impact. I must say, these boots did a great job with a 100% success rate. My toes didn't hurt, and I didn't experience any muscle issues the next day. By the way, I am 68yo.

I’m a big fan of the X ULTRA 4 MID GTX boot. It’s got out the box comfort, great traction and can handle some rugged terrain. I’ve used mine on hikes through South Australia’s Flinders Range and in the Scottish Highlands and have found them to be a reliable 3 season boot. It’s a real struggle to find a decent quality wide fit boot so I’m glad Salomon recognise there are a lot of us out there needing a wide fit.

Size 11 is not the same as the other sizes for Salomon’s. It was a wide fit but was longer than other size 11s

- Then use a pen to draw a line just in front of your big toe. Repeat for both feet and take the longer distance to determine your size.
- Using a ruler, measure the distance between the wall and the line you drew to find your size.
